To all members and non-members of NODHA,

Hello everyone, I would like to thank all our officers who've worked so hard on the C.E's, golf tournament, and membership this year. It has been a very productive year from all aspects.

Lynn Scarengos, who will be state president next year, has done an outstanding job of scheduling the C.P.R. class and the C.E.s, all of which are listed on the web, many thanks to Gaynor Denmark, the website editor.

We have a variety of speakers, and we try to keep the place, Zeke's Restaurant, and time the same for all meetings for your convenience. Also, we welcome ideas and suggestions of topics and information. This is your organization, let us hear from you! At each meeting a suggestion sheet is available.

Carrie Daigle, our secretary, is getting us into the 21st century with a facebook page and an email addresses mailing list. If we don't have your email address please send it to her. She also handles the menu choices, and is open to ideas.

Cora Oufnac, our membership chair, has been in contact with ADHA membership division to facilitate the process of signing up new members. Before Katrina we had almost 300 members and we have about that state wide.

This year, Jennifer Hew, our student liaison, and NODHA hosted two socials for the second year students. One in the Fall to welcome them and another in the Spring before graduation. We feel it's very important to maintain contact with the students in order to build the membership, and everyone really enjoyed and appreciated the socials.

One very important person to the organization is Shauntelle Sliman, our treasurer. She keeps the checks and balances. Each component of the state is assessed a certain amount of monies each year to pay expenses such as our lobbyist Jane Burgin. The monies are also used for the executive secretary, Debbi Mitchell, who is responsible for all correspondence through out the state. Jane had a very busy year tracking bills and hosting our day at the legislature. Jane is also monitoring the nitrous oxide bill for us. This bill will license us to administer nitrous to our patients.

NODHA also supports scholarships for hygiene students locally and nationally. Your dues are working hard and Shantelle is keeping up with them.

Our charity golf tournament was headed by Connie Comiskey. What an outstanding job she and her committee did. We gave $1,500 to charity. It was a very cold day, but everyone had a great time the New Orleans way-plenty of food and drink.

I've spoken with Dr. Jeffery Lesson, president of the New Orleans Dental Assn. about having a joint meeting. I'm waiting to hear back from him. I also sent him our C.E. schedule. Also, the board has decided to offer postings of job opportunities on our web site. It will be monitored so as to keep it current. Contact Cora Oufnac with that info. Cora can be reached by email corardh@cox.net or cell phone (504) 909 9895.

In closing, I'd like to welcome everyone to the 2009-2010 year, especially our new members and graduates. This is your organization so let us hear from you!

Respectively summitted,
Michie McHardy Bissell, R.D.H.
